I just had the most wonderful experience getting Lasik done with Dr. Lee! The entire process was very smooth and thorough, his staff is super friendly and the procedure itself was so quickly and painless. I chose Dr. Lee for his 20+ years of Lasik experience - and many referrals. Go with him, guys!
Anxiety, stress, frustration, hopelessness, suffering—these words sum up my experience with Contoura LASIK, emotions I live with every day since the procedure. Getting LASIK was the worst decision of my life. I’m not here to tell you whether you should or shouldn’t get laser eye surgery, but I want to share my experience to help you make an informed decision. Impact on My Life Before LASIK, I was a frequent pilot. Now, the higher-order aberrations (HOAs) I suffer from make it unsafe to fly, especially at night. I used to enjoy movies, but now I'm constantly distracted by HOAs and starbursts, particularly with dark backgrounds. Driving in low-light conditions has become extremely difficult, and even simple activities like watching movies, playing video games, or using my phone in dark mode remind me of my decision. Many things I once enjoyed are now either impossible or much more difficult due to the vision issues I attribute directly to LASIK. The Procedure and Aftermath I underwent Contoura LASIK in fall 2022. While it corrected my myopia, my vision has never been the same. I constantly see halos and starbursts that are dynamic, worsening as my pupils dilate. Although I can technically read a 20/20 chart, the halos significantly reduce my vision quality, making it harder to quickly and clearly read a chart, even though my vision is measured as 20/20. In darkness, my pupils dilate to around 8mm. When driving at night, halos and starbursts from taillights make it nearly impossible to see more than a few feet ahead. Lane changes are difficult as light from other cars obstructs my view in the side mirrors. During the day, I experience egg-shaped halos and starbursts over headlights, likely caused by corneal scarring. Even using dark mode on my phone is unbearable, with halos around text in well-lit rooms. Every day, I’m reminded of the bad decision I made by undergoing LASIK. Regret and Lack of Professional Support When I mentioned my HOAs to Dr. Mania Asadourian, she asked me what they were and told me not to focus on HOAs or LOAs, instead asking me to describe my vision in terms of "clarity." I was confused by her response. At a previous appointment, I asked about scleral lenses for my HOAs, but she dismissed the idea and prescribed glasses. She also recommended Lumify, an over-the-counter drop with brimonidine (in smaller doses than Alphagan P, a prescription for reducing pupil size). However, Lumify didn’t work for me. This lack of knowledge and care from a medical professional has been upsetting and concerning. Solution I’m now in the final stages of being fitted with wavefront scleral lenses, a long and costly process. They cost around $5,000 per pair and need replacing annually. With my trial lenses, I’ve experienced about an 85% reduction in HOAs at night. However, I still experience aberrations in the morning, likely due to corneal opacity post-LASIK. Final Thoughts If you’ve had LASIK and are experiencing complications, please report them to the FDA through MedWatch: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/index.cfm. Sharing experiences can help others make informed decisions. I wish I could go back to wearing glasses. The inconvenience of glasses is nothing compared to the suffering I’ve endured since LASIK. If you're an organ donor, know that your corneas may not be suitable for donation post-LASIK. Inform your family to prevent attempts to donate your corneas. Engaging in activities that could risk eye injuries should be done with caution. Wearing safety glasses is crucial to avoid injuries that could dislodge LASIK flaps, which may persist indefinitely. Lastly, many people may need glasses again after LASIK due to natural eye changes. Repeating LASIK or PRK for enhancements is generally discouraged, as these procedures aren’t FDA-approved for this purpose and may carry greater risks than the initial surgery.
It’s been three years since my surgery. I had cataracts in both of my eyes. My vision was very bad. I had both eyes done by Dr. Lee and I was very very scared and reluctant but his staff and team guided me through. I did price compare. The price was very fair and my vision is 2020. I do not wear glasses except for cute sunglasses, and I healed perfectly! I highly recommend him and his staff. The facility is clean and everything went well.
I have been wearing glasses with high prescription (-5.50) for at least 20 years and if you are reading the reviews, then you know exactly how it feels. Swimming or playing any type of sports without glasses? Inconvenient. Need to wear 3D glasses for movies? Troublesome. Skydiving? Better wear those contact lenses. Even when you don't do any of those activities, after wearing glasses for 5-6 hours, your nose starts to hurt, your face gets oily. Contact lenses? Your eyes get dry and tired really quickly. Now you feel like enough is enough and would like to get the eye surgery done. But is it safe? What are the chances of unsuccessful surgery? What about dry eyes? Well, I would like to assure you that Dr Paul C. Lee and the nurses are one of the most professional, gentle, patient, caring and attentive eye surgeons you would ever meet in the LA region. The clinic is clean and very well lit. LASIK is not the only available eye surgery you can do to treat myopia. It's important to do your free consultation because only then will the doctor be able to determine which types of surgery you are eligible for based on the condition of your eyes. I personally did ReLEx Smile surgery (I didn't know what this was prior to my free consultation) because I was concerned about dryness. Pricing was very reasonable. Anyhow, 3 months later, the only regret I have now is that I didn't get this done earlier. I would recommend CCRS to anyone who wants to get rid of their glasses and see the world without them! All the best!
Nothing but great things to say about this place. The staff is amazing. They make you feel very comfortable and answer any questions or concerns that you have. Dr. Lee himself is an amazing surgeon. Made me feel very comfortable throughout my procedures and explained everything well during our consultation. On top of that, he was able to correct my vision after being told by other doctors that they wouldn’t be able to. I had extremely terrible vision before and now after my procedures I am officially glasses free. Once again, great doctor, great staff, I would without a doubt recommend this place to anyone looking to improve their eyesight.
