L Plastic Surgery - Charles K Lee, MD

TLDR: Don’t come here for eyelid surgery unless you want to spend months in dissatisfaction and emotional turmoil while getting 0 assurance from the doctor. Dr Lee botched my eyes and I had to get a revision somewhere else and spend 2X+ the cost just to look ok again. The funny thing is that revision Dr immediately knew Dr Lee did the horrible work because I was not the only one this happened to. Lots of scarring too. I’ve waited a long time to write this review, specifically 3 years post-op. I’ve also consulted 2 other surgeons at 6 months post-op so I know I’m not making any false or unreasonable claims. Here we go: Prior to surgery with Dr Lee, I loved my eyes. My crease had a lateral flare that gave the cat eye look and looked so good with winged eyeliner. Over the years, my eyes became a little more saggy and developed multiple creases, so I consulted Dr Lee for Asian blepharoplasty to tighten my lids and make the double eyelids more well defined, all while keeping my lid crease height and shape exactly the same. He took a quick glance at my eyes and confidently said he knew exactly what I want. I asked a few questions, like will I have multiple creases? And he gave very impatient ambiguous response, like “yea yea, those will probably be tightened.” Then he rushed me out the office without even offering to show pictures of his previous work. Despite a bunch of other red flags (that I will go into details later), I proceeded with the surgery. Immediate after the surgery, I knew my eyes were messed up. The lateral flare in my right eye was gone. But of course it everyone says to wait for swelling to dissipate before freaking out, so I waited. Fast forward to 6+ months post-op, my eyes look nothing like each other, as they each ended up with their own separate problems. The left crease became loose so I lost the double eyelid on the left eye completely. The other surgeons who I consulted said Dr Lee did not secure the crease properly and left too much excess skin in the inner corners, which caused the fold to fail. The right eye was even worse. Instead of keeping my lateral flare (which I specifically said over and over again that I must keep), I got the opposite. He made the crease height in the inner corners so big and lowered the lateral crease height… so my right eye was literally a triangle. This really pissed me off because I repeated so many times that I want the exact same crease height and shape as before, yet he went out of the way to cut it out and change my eye shape. Anyway, I’m also to blame for this misfortune because there were so many red flags that shows Dr Lee is just not a good surgeon, yet I chose to ignore them, so here I am with one small eye and one triangle eye. Here are the red flags and why he’s a horrible surgeon: 1.) He just DGAF: He’s the Chief of plastic surgery and Director of microsurgery at St Mary’s, so his mind is clearly into bigger and better things. I don’t doubt Dr Lee is experienced, well-educated, and skilled, at least enough to make it this far. But he is clearly checked out and have no interest in those “smaller” cosmetic procedures like eyelid surgery. My consultation and follow up visits literally lasted 10 minutes combined, mostly with him barely looking at me and rushing me out. 2.) Zero surgical planning: When I say zero, I mean literally nothing. He did not take time to go over crease height and shape prior to surgery. I’m pretty sure he didn’t even mark out my incision lines. He didn’t even measure my eyelids until I was already on the surgery table doped up on sedatives. Then he made the impulsive decision to lower my crease 2mm while I was barely conscious on the table. 3.) Unwilling to listen: From the consultation to the follow-ups, every one of my concerns were brushed off. Even at the 5 month follow up to discuss potential revision, Dr Lee immediately blamed the failed crease on mr anatomy without even looking at my eyes. How did he know it’s my anatomy from 3-4ft away? And he said he’s hesitant to revise my right eye because it “looks good enough”….

I found Dr. Lee first for a revision for my left upoer eyelid correct. He did a good job and has a very good personalty and i feel like i can trust him with bigger operations. The recovery was very fast and no complications. He is very patient and makes everything easy. I did no worry and knew i was in good hands.

First of all, I flew from Hawaii to San Francisco for my surgery. I was only in CA for two weeks, so it was great that Dr. Lee and his team was able to get me in for a consultation, get the surgery done along with the follow up within that time. I got revision eyelid surgery to fix the DST (Double suture technique) procedure that I got done 10 years ago because my crease/eyelids was getting smaller, and my eyes were uneven. I voiced my concerns about my eyelids and Dr. Lee acknowledged my concerns and recommended what would be the best option for me. Dr. Lee and his team, especially Jessica, were very professional and friendly. My surgery went well. They explained all the post-op care and reassured me to just trust the process. Their customer service is top notch. If I have any questions, I will just email them and either Jessica or Dr. Lee would response within a day, which I appreciate very much. I am 4 days away from my 6 months post-op and I am loving my results. I cannot wait until it truly heals at the 1-year mark. I am so happy that I decided to get the revision eyelid surgery done. I feel beautiful with and without makeup after the surgery. I recommend Dr. Lee and his team to anyone who is considering getting revision eyelid surgery or other services that they provide. I can assure you that you will be well cared for.

Dr. Lee and his team truly impressed me with their professionalism, knowledge, and kindness. I am thrilled with the results of the procedure. My mother and grandmother experienced similar eye issues (upper eyelid affecting peripheral vision), so I am grateful to have had the opportunity to address it early on. Dr. Lee took a very conservative approach, ensuring that I still look like myself, only better.
