Malaika and the staff were really sweet, however I requested a trim and emphasized that I prefer my hair flat over a curly bowl type cut. I left with almost 2 inches off my hair and way more volume than I wanted, and I felt rushed at the end of my appointment as there was someone else waiting. It was too late to say anything as my hair was already cut and I will just have to let it grow back out. Really nice people and salon, however I don’t feel like what I wanted was executed.

Once again, an awesome and relaxing facial with Deb. I have been going to see Deb for at least 5-6 years and she is always on time, polite, professional and I love love my facials with her. I must admit, I have “cheated” on her and tried other spas closer to me but I have not found anyone who compared to her. The only negative, and it has zero to do with the Deb or the spa, is the paid parking situation. Allot time a few extra minutes for this to ensure you’re on time for your service at the Aviary. Great service and wonderful atmosphere.

I’ve been searching for a stylist who truly understands curly hair, and I finally found them! Malaika is a curl magician—knowledgeable and incredibly skilled at shaping curls to enhance their natural texture. If you have curly hair and want a stylist who really gets it, I highly recommend booking an appointment.

I had a very disappointing experience with Malaika, despite her claiming to specialize in curly haircuts. I made it clear multiple times (6-7 times) that I wanted to avoid layers while my hair was straight, and asked for a blunt cut until it was curly to account for shrinkage. I specifically requested a pixie cut but wanted control over the shape, which is best achieved by cutting curly hair once it's dry and styled, not while straight. Any curly cut specialist would know this. Instead, she cut my hair into multiple layers while it was straight and didn’t inform me until she was finished. She told me to “just trust her,” but as I later discovered, she had cut the hair above my head and hid the uneven lengths by placing them behind my head. When my hair shrunk after washing, it became clear that the cut was a mess—there was no style or shape left. Additionally, she rushed through the appointment due to double booking and the fact that another client was upset and behind schedule. This led to her cutting about 12 inches of my hair off quickly and carelessly, skipping important steps in the process. The result is that my hair is extremely uneven, and I’ll have to wait several months for it to even out and grow back. I am now left to wear wigs for at least the next 4 - 6 months because of this, which has cost me hundreds of dollars. The wig stylist I visited afterward was also confused by the outcome. I would caution anyone considering this stylist to ensure that she truly listens to your requests and make sure to bring a mirror with you to be an audience to her work, especially for curly haircuts. This experience has been extremely disappointing and frustrating.

I can’t say enough amazing things about Aviary. I’ve been a client since moving back to this side of town, 2018 or 2019. The owner and all of her staff are amazing people and they do great work. They truly inspire me. At this point I think I’ve worked with almost everyone and I have no complaints. Definitely worth every penny you’ll spend. I’m so appreciative. 🥰
