Dr. Scott B. Karlene, MD

When I made an appointment at this office, I strictly requested to see the Dr. Karlene. The receptionist said Dr. Karlene won’t be available at the selected date and that there’s a Physician Assistant (PA) available to see me. I then asked the receptionist to change my appointment to a date when I can see Dr. Karlene and the receptionist said okay, no problem. When I arrived at my appointment on time, I waited 2 hours, only to be told that the “Dr. Karlene left few minutes ago” and the PA will see me. Although PA was nice and helpful, I still wanted an expert level consultation and recommendation which I’m sure they charged my insurance for and my copay was expensive as well.

First off - let me start off by saying I never met once Dr. Karlene. I’ve been to this place 4 times just this YEAR, each time I waited at least an hour to be seen except for one time (which was 45 minutes). The first time I was seen, I waited OVER an hour just to be called back. My appointment time was 4:30 — I didn’t leave that office until 7pm and they close at 6!!! I wasn’t called back until almost 6pm. The scheduling is horrible. I specifically asked them what appt time is best for not having to wait hours to be seen.. I was told after lunch at 1… I was just there yesterday for an appointment at 1:15 — wasn’t called back till after 2 and the lobby was full of about 8 other people waiting. Let’s not forget the sewage smell from the plumbing that happened as well while I was there. It smelled like ripped ASS! I had to spray my perfume before an PA assistant came out with Febreeze and explained what was going on - it was their sinks.. gross.. I had 2 tests for fungus and which the assistant could “swear on her life it’s fungus” and yet the test came back as “trauma and shoes”???? That makes NO sense. I work from home.. I barely wear shoes… then they did a biopsy on me in which came back “allergies” — yet they couldn’t explain what I’m allergic too or why I’m not getting any better and I’ve seen them 4 times now. Then they had the nerve to ask me to call when another “bite” comes up, don’t itch it, and they’d do another biopsy. For what? A no answer result? I don’t need to be cut open and sewed again for no answers. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. The PAs do not know what they are doing. I’m going back to my old dermatologist, it’s a drive but it’s worth it. The only positive review I have is for the assistant - she’s blonde and young. She did the MOST there. Thank you for being the only good part of that office.

Review Edit: I have been commuting for Dr Karlene & Nurse Lori for a while now & had a short stint that I had to reschedule my appointments multiple times per office request. I’m glad it hasn’t happened for a few months now. The nurses, PAs & Dr Karlene are all professional & kind. I have commuted 10 minutes & upto 90 minutes (depending on where I lived) for over a decade now to visit this office & can’t see myself looking for a dermatologist in the near future.

I absolutely love this dermatology office! I have been coming here for years and have brought my whole family for various skin issues. Dr. Karlene and his entire staff of physician assistants and nurses are knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. Skin can be a sensitive issue and they take great care in making you feel good about yourself. I see Jeanette regularly and I trust her recommendations completely. She sells products that work and are reasonably priced. She is passionate about skin care and it shows. I look forward to my appointments with her and I wouldn't trust my skin anywhere else.
