Metropolitan Dermatology - Mahwah

Several things: 1. My insurance changed to United. According to United's website, the office accepted the insurance. 2. According the office, they are not in patnership with United. I didn't know that until I got there. That's totally fine if I didn't go there thinking they did. United doesn't know that either clearly, and neither does the person who is confirming appointments. 3. I drove over an hour to get to this office that I have been seen at 5+ times, and I'll never come back. Take 2 minutes and confirm a patient's info is correct so you do not waste someone's entire day.

I've been going to Dr. Lieber for years, and she's great. However, after my recent frustrating and disappointing experience with the staff I don't plan on coming back. I'm away at school and asked for a refill on my hair medication (which you have to be on consistently or your hair will fall out). Even though I have an appointment scheduled for November (when I am back from school) they will not give me a refill. I was just seen in May so it hasn't even been 6 months. It's frustrating for patients and simply a bad business practice with all the online providers available. With an online provider, for $15 and filling out a quick online form, I got 6 months of refills sent to my pharmacy in just a few hours. Much better experience than being charged $150, taking the time to get to and from the office along with the time there, and fighting (unsuccessfully) to get a refill.

We are working with Dr. Gershenhorn on our toddler’s eczema. While we are early in the journey, I cannot speak highly enough of her. She is one of the most empathetic doctors we have come across, who truly takes time to understand her patients, explain her approach / treatment plan, and actively encourages us to ask questions. She has checked in with us before appointments, responds to emails in between, is very engaged during our visits and sends detailed emails outlining what was discussed. We feel very hopeful about her holistic approach to gut and skin healing.

From start to finish my experience with this office was exceptional. The staff was great and Dr. Gershenhorn was thorough and reassuring in regards to my concerns.

Dr. Valerie Gershenhorn is so knowledgeable, kind and really seeks to understand root causes to treat the whole patient, not only addressing symptoms. She’s a phenomenal dermatologist; highly recommend.
