I have been a patient for over 6 years. At my appointment last week 2/4/25 I was informed at check in that my Medicare card was no good. They asked me if I had received a new card, I have not, and have used this same card for 6 years. I had even used the card at my regular doctors appointment two days before, no problems! Rather than trying to solve the issue they cancelled my appointment refused treatment and offer no help in resolving the issue or trying to reschedule my appointment. I have never been treated like this in any doctors office before. One week later they still have not reached out to me to try and correct the issue or reschedule an appointment. Not a very professional way to treat patients!
Terrible experience with the administration. I was told wrong originally by the office in regards to billing and insurance. Took forever to follow up and reply. I wasn't particularly satisfied with the resolution. Go to Wilmington Health Dermatology in Porters Neck instead. It's only five or so min up the road from them. The staff is super friendly there, and I have never had any issues. Summit can feel free to reach out to rectify the situation, but I'm not pursuing the issue anymore. If the office wishes to contact me, they can and I'll update my review. ***UPDATE**** Like businesses usually do with these reviews, they say they will look into something, but I have not heard from them. I don't expect that I will, honestly, I think the reply was just fluff. As I previously mentioned, go somewhere else.
Was my first visit here after another popular Dermatology Practice that has offices in Wilmington, Burgaw and some more locations has really gone downhill with the Practitioner at their Burgaw office that I went to. I had been going to my former Dermatologist offices for many years but after my last 2 highly disappointing visits with the Practitioner at their Burgaw Office that just didn't seem to care or give me the time of day, it was time to look for a better practice! Well, I found this wonderful practice in Hampstead as I was going to another Dr. in the same building and noticed Summit Dermatology on one of the doors. I decided to go in the Summit office to talk with receptionist and then I done some online research and I liked what I was told and what I read about. I called back and got an appointment scheduled with Dr. Loy. I was thoroughly impressed by Dr. Loy. I went in to get some places on my arms examined that I was concerned about. Dr. Loy examined all the places, explained thoroughly what the places were and assured me these places were nothing to be concerned about. Then, Dr. Loy asked if I had any more places that I was concerned with. I have a lot of dark and red moles so I asked if she had time to do a complete body scan and she said, "Of course, I will be glad to check you over good." So Dr. Loy gave me a thorough body exam and again explaining what any places she found on my skin were and assured me these places were nothing to worry about either. Dr. Loy is really friendly, caring, great personality, very knowledgeable and does not rush you through an exam. I will definitely be seeing Dr. Loy here at Summit Dermatology from now on with any skin concerns and my annual body scans!! I highly recommend this Practice and Dr. Loy!!
I had previously met with Dr. Loy to manage my acne. I had been to three different dermatologists throughout the years (military moves) who all recommended Accutane as a long term solution for my painful, deep cystic acne. Knowing the teratogenic side effects, I put it off for many years to prioritize starting my family. Spironolactone and birth control did help many times, but as soon as I stopped it, the painful acne would return. I dealt with 3 pregnancies and postpartum periods (while breastfeeding) with terrible, deep and painful acne and was told "there was nothing they could do" but to revisit them after I was done breastfeeding. In the spring, Dr. Loy told me to get on two forms of birth control so I could start Accutane when I was done breastfeeding. I did and the birth control did significantly improve my skin, but I have been told and seen many times that as soon as birth control or spironolactone is stopped, the acne will return. Unfortunately Dr. Loy left the practice and today I met with a new PA who adamantly refused to prescribe me Accutane because my skin was "too clear" now. She told me the risks outweighed the benefits and dismissed my concerns when I tried to tell her my 10+ year history with cystic acne. I tried to explain what Dr. Loy had told me about how birth control and spironolactone only help while you are using them, but she was very dismissive. I was a bit frustrated and confused when she told me that if I stopped the birth control and my acne came back, then she would treat me with Accutane. Why would I stop the birth control to start a highly teratogenic medication? It just doesn't make any sense. I told multiple family members who are MDs and know my acne situation and they were confused as well but ultimately told me to just go off the birth control, let my acne get bad, and then start the birth control again when she gave me Accutane. But why should I have to put myself through this? I felt like she didn't take my acne history into account and didn't really believe me. The provider change left me very frustrated and I felt very belittled and unheard by the PA that replaced Dr. Loy. So disappointed.
The staff at the Hampstead Office location are super friendly and Chelsea Loy DO is amazing! She is so sweet, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable within her field. I felt completely heard and comfortable asking her questions throughout our sessions together and would highly recommend her to others in search of a great dermatologist.
