UPMC Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

I don't like to leave negative reviews, but this office needs to be checked. I had the worst healthcare related experience in my 69 years of life. Avoid doctor Kriegel and his minions. There were no pre-op instructions. I was required to shave myself in the public restroom without shaving cream using a cheap disposable razor. The doctor then wrote half truths about the experience. Then after my follow up appointment for suture removal, his nurse outright lied about the doctor coming in to check the wound. Finally do not arrive 15 minutes early if your appointment is right after lunch. You will wait for the office to open at 1 pm.

4/8/24 upgraded to 4 stars. I have since returned for a few visits and the situation has greatly improved. Treatment plan has improved. Scheduling follow-up visits has improved. Mostly the wait time is reasonable. I'm optimistic that things are heading in a positive direction. As a long time patient of Dr Giesswein I can certainly notice the difference. At my office appointment I felt more like I was taking a car in for service than a real person with a scheduled appointment. Very little time was devoted to addressing the problem that I came in for just a quick in and out visit that took about 8 minutes to inform me that I needed to schedule an appointment to address the issue that I thought would be addressed today. I'm trying really hard not to be negative about the switch to UPMC and the retirement of Dr Giesswein but today was not the experience that I was expecting. I guess only time will tell.

I don't recommend going here. My son an I were not treated with respect by the Dr after being told by the hospital not to get his stitches wet.

Dr. Giesswein very recently did a bilateral breast reduction for me. He was so reassuring through the whole process, took care of all the insurance paperwork and made sure I was comfortable and understood everything that was about to happen. I am estatic with my results and would recommend him to anyone thinking about having this surgery! I don't think I could have had a better experience.

Dr. Giesswein is an amazing surgeon. Very professional yet caring and understanding. He takes the time to get to know you and what your expectations are. I highly recommend him him for any of your cosmetic needs.
