I have a rare form of eczema that no doctor was able to accurately diagnose for over a decade. Dr. Spiers’ PA looked at it and immediately knew what it was, offering treatments and preventative tips. Another issue has arisen, and PA Sam and I once again confirmed our suspicions with Dr. Spiers’ expertise. Amanda, Sam, Dr. Spiers, and the front office have treated me with respect and warmth. I really appreciate their insistence on getting a proper diagnosis and finding the root cause of my dermatological issues.
I went to this practice last year 9/2023 (I’ve been sitting on this review for quite sometime)… I met with the PA-C Samantha. She was wonderful and kind. She then told me that Dr. Spier loves to meet her new patients and will also do a quick body check as well. Dr. Spier came in and introduced herself. She then told me she would do a body check, I agreed. Right before the body check happened, she looked at me and motioned a belly and said “youre expecting?” I was mortified. I was months post partum, and at the time dealing with many body issues. I said no, quickly fought back tears, and asked for the body check to be hurried at that point. I never got an apology, especially from a women it was awful. I left as fast as I could, because the experience was truly humiliating. I have since found a new derm who I can truly say would never make this mistake. Samantha was wonderful, but Dr. Spier probably did not think twice about her comment and that is a major issue.
My father was a patient of Dr. Spiers and treated for skin cancer. As his disease progressed and his platelet counts dropped to nil, his skin cancer was observed, but not treated due to a bleeding risk (ordering a transfusion and CBC were too much work or cost too much). The dermal cancer on his scalp increasingly spread, worsened, and caused him pain, but we don't have to worry about that any longer...
I waited 6 months for an appointment. When it finally came time , I called and asked about how long I should plan to be there. A reasonable question, as my time matters. Also, I was told they could not give me any timeframe. After a frustrating conversation, I understood that they must overbook, drastically. I asked for a ballpark, an hour? refused to tell me I said so if I wait over an hour and have to go back to work because I haven’t even been called in. I guess I would have to leave at that point she told me, after checking with the office manager, that if I left, I would still be paying for the appointment. So they want me to come 15 minutes early and wait an undetermined amount of time or I pay for the appointment. But they can’t tell me about how long I would be waiting to plan. She said sometimes they get emergencies. I said, that’s fine, I understand that, but then you should not charge me if I have to leave. And do they have that many emergencies that they can’t handle? That conversation tells me a lot about the overall attitude of the practice. My time in my health are worth more than that. There are other Dermatologist.
The Dr. may be ok, but it's not worth the difficult personalities you have to deal with at the front desk. Angry women.
