I came in for an evaluation of a small keloid and had a consultation with Dr Amanda Robalin. If you want to label it a consulation. It was a 5 minute chat of literally talking to someone that seemed like they were cracked out or drank 100 redbulls that day. It was off putting which she said that the keliod is so small we can just do a steroid injection. She did a .1ml, which is the smallest you can possibly do. For comparison, this is literally a drop of water out of a needle. They ended up charging me for .7ml saying thats their minimum. On top of that, they said all i had to do was pay a copay with my insurance which was paid in office. These scam artists then proceeded to send my insurance company a $500 bill for the 15 minute visit and now are trying to get me to pay the difference the insurance wouldn't pay far. They only gave me a receipt for my payment. They are trying to submit bullshit charges to the insurance carriers to get as much money as they can! Avoid this place! Between the cracked out doctor, the rude receptionists, and the behind your back bill submissions, these guys need to be investigated for fraud!!
I have been going been going back and forth on whether I should write this. If I can help someone NOT go to this dermatologist by sharing my experience, it's worth it. I scheduled a free skin check about 3 weeks prior to the date. I received a text one day before the appointment saying "reminding you we will not be able to do your screening...". I called right away and they said they called that Friday to let me know. They did not call but I did receive a confirmation text on the day they said they called. The office said they scheduled me incorrectly and because of this they have no more free spots left and the rest of the years appointments are full so I was basically out of luck. They ended up putting me on hold and making it work. I have never gotten a skin check before so I was really trying to convince myself this was normal. The skin check took all of 3 seconds. I sat there while Dr. Ma quickly scanned with her eyes in this oddly rushed frantic manner. I had to point out a spot and I believe if I didn't she would not have noticed it. She took one look at it ( without a microscope) and said I needed a biopsy. She then told the nurse that if she was booked within the next two weeks to get me in cause I need this done. Her tone and verbiage made me feel extremely scared especially being someone with a severe medical fear. She had zero empathy and did not explain what she thought and what the process may be. After this, no one could give me even a range for how much it would cost if I scheduled a biopsy. I ended up leaving and going to a different office due to the uncertainty. I went to this new dermatologist who pulled out the dermatologist microscope- which I never saw before. He not only said I had nothing to worry about with this spot but explained the reason why and what he saw. He said after what he is seeing on his end there is absolutely no reason for me to put myself through the biopsy. I asked why he thought this Dr. at Tru-Skin said I needed one and he confirmed what I was already thinking. The Dr. who did the skin check did not thoroughly do a skin scan and was way to quick to move to the skin biopsy. I understand the importance of someones health and health should be above all. I urge anyone who is going to this location for a skin check to please look at the other reviews. Save yourself some stress. I am sure this goes the opposite way and if I did have a spot that might have been cancerous, it would have not been found. Which is a scary thought!
IMO horrible experience for me. The whole appointment time took less than five minutes with the doctor. Was charged an extra $200 beyond what my insurance company paid for a two second freeze spray. I would not recommend this dermatologist to anyone
I am on the younger side, so when I saw Dr. Ma today, I felt so unseen and unheard. Whenever I asked her any questions she was short with no elaboration. She did not appear to want to be helpful in any capacity and when I brought up issues I was having, threw out some vague solutions. I don’t think I have ever left a review for any place before, but I will never be coming back.
Amanda Robalin’s bedside manner left much to be desired. She should try brushing up on some interpersonal skills if she plans on keeping patients. Other reviews regarding her suggest this is a prevalent issue with her, which is not only unprofessional but also directly leads to miscommunication among patient and doctor. That “one year of experience” really shows.
