Renascance Dermatology: Dwana Shabazz, M.D.

People at the front desk were friendly and professional. Dr. Shabazz was not welcoming at all. The whole time of the appointment (no more than 10 minutes, that's all you get if you are a new patient) made me feel like in a rush. She stood the whole time by the door like she was ready to leave. I wished she had sat down, introduced herself, invested some time in welcoming me to her practice. When I asked her to do the test she suggested, she said I needed another appointment because she didn't have any time. Not sure why reserve time for an appointment if you don't get quality time from the doctor. Not going back even though she has highly recommended.

Dr. Shabazz has very a poor attitude with patients and has a lack of professional communication skills. I saw her for my acne. Had my first appointment with her 3 months prior in which she dismissed everything I told her about my skin and concerns. She prescribed some tropical creams and told me to come back in 3 months. I told her that I have tried these prescription tropical creams in the past and they did not work for me. She sent me on my way letting me know that I’d have to try these creams again for 3 months before we take a new direction with my care. Three months go by, I come back for my second appointment and the medical assistant checks me in. I told the medical assistant that I tried Dr. Shabazz 3 month regimen and my skin showed no improvement just like the last time I tried these prescription ointments. The medical assistant relays the information to Dr. Shabazz, who then has the medical assistant tell me that Dr. Shabazz wants me to give the regimen another 3 months and come back for a follow up after that. At that second appointment, Dr. Shabazz never spoke directly to me face to face nor did I even see her in the appointment, she had the medical assistant relay everything between us. And this is my breaking point with Dr. Shabazz, I told the medical assistant that I was sorry that Dr. Shabazz made her the middle man, that this is completely unprofessional on Dr. Shabazz’s part, and I am not interested in trying the same regime for another 3 months simply because I do not want to make a follow up and have to see Dr. Shabazz again. I work in healthcare as a nurse and I speak to doctors every shift…this behavior of Dr. Shabazz is NOT normal and demonstrates an extreme level of unprofessionalism. Since not everyone works in the medical field, so not everyone would know this, but a medical assistant is an unlicensed employee, they operate under a certificate and under delegation of the licensed employee, in this case the licensed employee being Dr. Shabazz. It is out of the scope of practice for the medical assistant to relay information discussing medication treatment as they do not hold the license to do so. This is very dangerous to patients and really does leave Dr. Shabazz open to malpractice lawsuits. Do not go here. This doctor is dangerous and is a malpractice lawsuit waiting to happen…

I Love Dr Shabazz and her staff. Everyone was so friendly, very informative and my wait wasn’t long at all. The waiting room was so comfortable. Dr Shabazz was fabulous. She made eye contact when speaking, listened when I spoke and answered all my questions one at a time with as much information as I asked for. She was very honest, funny and made me feel right at home. The nurse who assisted was so great to me and explained how to use the samples I received for the psoriasis on my scalp before I even had to ask. Loved my appointment.

Highly recommend Doctor Shabazz! She takes the time to not just tell you what you need to do for your acne problem but will explain to you the problem which is very important. Her assistant is also amazing. Great service! Very happy to have finally found a good dermatologist for my teen daughter. My daughter also left the Doctor office very happy and positive that she will get good results this time.

Excellent first visit - Dr. Shabazz took all the time needed to make sure I understood and was comfortable with the process. I did not feel rushed nor was I made to feel like my reason for coming in was any less important than any other of her patience. I left knowing she had listened to what I said and treatment prescribed was specific to MY needs.
