Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery - Montgomery

I have never left a review before but I’m leaving one here because I had such a terrible experience with this place. I saw Dr. Chappell and it was an awful experience. Going to any doctor for a condition, especially a dermatologist where you have an external, visible imperfection or condition, is already very vulnerable. Dr. Chappell was rude, dismissive, judgmental, and made an already vulnerable situation honestly quite embarrassing and distressing. Not to mention the very long wait time even though I arrived early for my appointment. On top of that, they had problems running my insurance and I ended up paying out of pocket there at the office. There was a bit more insurance back and forth and their billing department really dropped the ball on communicating with me. Long story short, MONTHS later, I get a bill in the mail from them for the visit I had already paid for. Now I’m trying to get that resolved. It has been a terrible experience overall, from the visit to the billing errors.

After reading another review, I don’t feel as bad about my review of my experience. I was really excited to finally get an appointment, especially after dealing with some ongoing issues, but unfortunately, once I got to the facility, I didn’t feel very welcome. The front desk staff was fantastic, so sweet and friendly, and I had no issues there. However, things took a turn once I was sent to the back to meet with Dr. Chappell. She came across as distant, almost like she didn’t want to engage with me. Her tone was not inviting, almost robotic, which made me feel like I was doing something wrong. She was mostly silent, and when I shared my concerns, all I received was, “I don’t see anything right now, and I only go by what’s presented to me.” While I understand that approach, I didn’t feel heard or valued. It felt as though I was just another number for her to check off. I know I’m not a doctor, but I know how to treat people with more care and respect. I am currently in school studying to enter the healthcare field, and I can confidently say I wouldn’t treat anyone like that. I would suggest Dr. Chappell revisit the basics of healthcare ethics, as it’s clear to me now, from a Facebook post and even these reviews, (that I wish I had read first) that she doesn’t seem to prioritize building a connection with her patients. -One thing I’ve learned in life is that you shouldn’t stay in places where you’re not welcome. I don’t need a follow-up or a callback, I won’t be returning.

Dr. Maddox is fantastic, and I have been seeing him for over 25 years. Today’s experience with Bethany was highly unprofessional and left a lot to be desired. I arrived on time to my appointment and waited 35 minutes in the waiting room. Once back I was told it would be an additional 45 minutes before I could be seen because another patient forgot their pre-med and that patient would now be seen instead of me. I chose instead to simply leave. Reappoint patients who are late and/or who do not pre-med on time; the burden should not fall on patients who are there on time and have done what is asked of them. Do the right thing, honor appointment times, and your patients will appreciate you. I will not be back for an appointment with Bethany.

As a person who has full health benefits and suffer with acne, this business was not helpful to my needs. I called to get an appointment and I lucked up and got an appointment for the same day due to a cancellation. I see why the appointment was canceled because my physician was not relatable at all. I came in due to an acne breakout, which she (Chappell) chalked up to a rash. I asked for a solution, her response was “well it’s cleared up now so I don’t know what to tell you.” I explained to her how the acne clears up and then it comes back. I brought in all of my items that I used on my face. She did not care to even look. I felt like I was annoying her throughout the appointment. Overall, no solution and a waste of a copay. I would not recommend her to anyone.

Upon entering, the waiting area was empty, and the front desk staff greeted my wife and me with blank stares and a noticeable lack of professionalism. It felt like we had to "wake them up" from their zoned-out state just to receive assistance. After being called back by a nurse, we waited in the exam room for a while before Dr. Chappell arrived. Unfortunately, her bedside manner was lacking, and she seemed irritated to even be there. Her diagnosis was subpar, and we honestly could have found more helpful information on Google. My wife was concerned about a suspicious pimple on her face and spots on her arms. Dr. Chappell’s wonderful, John Hopkins University level, advice was: People just make them. Great, thank you. Thank God I have insurance, because that appointment cost 300 dollars.
