I just have to say they lost a new patient. I was googling for nearby dermatologist and saw Boise Dermatologist MedSpa and called them to ask about their services and if my insurance is accepted or not. I called on Tuesday and lady I spoke to was nice and told me about the services they offer and what to expect at first appointment and she said that their Insurance team / person can verify my benefits and let me know what's covered and my copay would be by Thursday She said I can schedule an appointment for Wednesday which was next day or even Thursday or Friday that works the best. I asked let's do Friday so by that time my Insurance benefits are verified. The lady said sure, they will call you on Thursday and let you know and for now we can schedule for Friday and if needed we can change. And now today Thursday someone calls for my appointment to ask if I want to confirm my appointment or reschedule it. I was like I was expecting call from your insurance team about my benefits, she was like oh yea that's verified. I was like well that's great but I unfortunately can't make it tomorrow, Friday can we reschedule it. She was like yea we can but there is rescheduling /cancelation fees. I was like what...how come no one told me at the time of booking. She was like you if cancel or reschedule 24 hours or less prior to your appointment then there would be a charge. I was like i was expecting a call from your insurance team to go over my benefits and copay, which i never got the call. And then this lady calls me at 11am which is 23 hours prior to my appointment that was scheduled tomorrow on Friday. However i had got call at 9am from their automation reminder call for the appointment which was 25 hours prior to my appointment, and had chose option reschedule instead of cancel, because i was hoping the insurance team would call and we can go over it. So technically i did not break their policy, at 9am Thursday i did let them know i need to reschedule my appointment that was set for friday at 10am, which is 25 hours to go before my scheduled appointment. And their policy is within 24 hours of rescheduling or cancelation, and mine was 25 hours prior to my appointment i did let them know. I understand many medical offices do have that policy but at time of scheduling patients are notified. I requested to waive the fee as new patient courtesy , she was like ok let me talk to someone and see if we can do it. After few mins she did come back on phone and said as one time courtesy we will waive the fees but want to reiterate that there is rescheduling/cancelation charge and next time we won't be waiving the fees. I told her going forward please let new patients know your policies , because how would they know they are NEW, when scheduling appointments. The lady on phone didn't say anything. I said thank you and hung up. But omg are you stuck on your fees rather than being excited to welcome a new patient and not showing any sympathy or being sorry that you can't make it but let's try to find another day that would work best for you. So much of patient care... I usually don't write reviews but this one just ticked me off and was like wow they just lost a new patient...Patient care level starts from the very first call and continues to grow from there...this one ended on 2nd call with a focus on unknown hidden fees from new patients.
Please be careful about using this dermatologist office, due to their billing issues. I am under dual coverage by mother’s insurance and my own. They charged my mother’s insurance stating she was the one who came in when I wrote and stated multiple times that is my secondary insurance. It has been over 6 months and they have been so difficult with responding. I highly advise you to find a different office! Tina hasn’t been helpful. I told her I was very frustrated with this and she stated that was a “nasty message” which I don’t understand why and was trying to resolve and wonder what I have said that was so nasty, then she hung up on me. I called again trying to resolve how I may have hurt her feelings and how I can improve in the future, however it was going nowhere, because she couldn’t give me a valid reason. She lied and stated I yelled at her which I was just trying to get a word in and she wouldn’t let me talk when she was yelling at me. At that point I decided to end the call and just hung up. I hope Tina and billing really improve their professionalism with their customers, as Dr. Brooks was pleasant and professional.
Waste of time and money. I got zero answers for my concerns, just some prescriptions for what it might be and said to come back in 3 months. Had concerns about Vitiligo and she couldn’t tell me for sure, asked about the light that can be used and she replied “hers was out of commission and would make sure it was up and running when I came back in 3 months!” So now I have to spend more money to go to see if I can get answers elsewhere! Also they over charged me on my copay. Also wasn’t a fan of when filling out paperwork I was asked what pronouns I prefer, what sex I identify as. Let’s get real here people there is only 2 options!
The staff was okay, & the treatment was okay. They offered to do things same day, and I asked 3 times during my visit for the cost. They said each time the co-pay will cover it. Then I receive a bill for $350. So billing transparency isn’t a thing there. So if that’s important to you don’t go here. Otherwise it was okay. I personally had other obligations and was less than impressed. I definitely would have said no half the things offered since my co pay was supposedly going to cover it. I also sent a message through their portal, but it’s been ignored so far. Update-called during business hours and was sent to voicemail. Also checked my missed calls/voicemails do not see a missed call from the office or message.
They got me in for an appointment very quickly and the staff was very nice. Dr. Brooks was very nice and made sure all of my questions were answered. She made sure I understood the possible side effects of the medications she prescribed and spoke in a way I could understand. Happy with my visit!
