I was pleased with my yearly skin cancer exam, but when I returned to remove some growths I learned that they don't routinely send things they've removed to pathology. Despite my father dying of melanoma (family history) they told me they could just freeze off things they thought were skin tags. After they froze them off the provider casually said, "there was that one time a skin tag came back from pathology as cancer." WHAT?! She casually mentioned this after the procedure and after I questioned her at length about the need to send them to pathology. This is why the two other dermatologists I saw in my previous home state ALWAYS routinely sent things they removed to pathology. I just cannot believe this woman said that to me AFTER she assured me there was no reason to remove the skin tags and send them to pathology. This visit has caused me a lot of stress. I don't feel I can trust this clinic with my care and I've found a new provider. Also, as a side note, OHSU has an extraordinary wait time for appointments and their bill was hugely inflated compared to the dermatologist I have transferred my care to.
Dr. Kim Biggs Sanders is fantastic! She answers questions… I mean really? What doctor bothers to do that? (A tad sarcastic towards doctors In general, but not really) Anyhow, she takes all the time necessary to address your concerns & questions. Every assistant has been personable and thorough. My only complaint is that it’s impossible to get them to answer the phone. Multiple times I’ve gotten a voice mail from one of the assistants instructing me to call back and they don’t answer.
I had a wonderful experience at my first appointment here! I had a concern and it was met with care and I feel like I have a trusted place to go to as I navigate my health.
Extremely expensive. I received a very cursory mole exam and had a wart frozen off. The mole removal cost $500 dollars and insurance wouldn't cover $400 of it. I contacted them to see if this was an error. Here is the response: "With OHSU being a research facility, university and a medical facility this directly impacts our fees. Our costs are not going to be comparable to other local facilities but are usual and customary for as facility such as ours." So get ready to pay heavily out of pocket.
Great providers and staff. It is nice not to have to head up the hill or to the CHH for an office visit.
