Eric Desman, M.D.

Dear prospective client, I was referred to Dr. Desman by our beloved ENT Doctor . My history includes five cesarean sections and 1 year of breastfeeding with each child. Dr. Desman listened to my goals, then together, we developed my surgical care plan. He answered all questions, and I scheduled a breast reduction and breast lift and an abdominoplasty with liposuction. I did have unforeseen post-operative complications on day 12 from the abdominoplasty. I was seen immediately by Dr. Desman. He reassured me and surgically resolved the problem on that day. I share my experience with the goal of describing the expertise and care that Dr. Desman provides should a problem occur. He resolved my problem while making me feel completely confident and comfortable. I felt like the Only patient under his care. Gena, his nurse ( Awesome Nurse!)was in touch with me daily by phone, as I continued to recover and all went well. I cringe to think what might have happened without the experience and care of my Dear Dr. Desman. I am a Registered Nurse in my 3rd decade of practice. I have “ seen “ things that lead me to tell you this …. Thank God Dr. Desman was at the helm. I am forever grateful for his experience, bed side manner, professionalism and super office staff. After 10 years, today is the day I must give my honest and impartial review of Dr. Eric Desmond and his practice (Virginia Center for Plastic Surgery). In the late months of 2014, I inquired to Dr. Desmond’s office regarding a burn scar from an iron, on my hand since my early childhood. This burn healed fully and properly throughout my adolescence and was more so a cosmetic nag to me as I grew older. I was very much open to options available to me when I explained what my achievements were. (after all, Eric is the professional here. He should know BEST) My sole and only purpose was to aesthetically enhance and cosmetically blend the scar with the rest of my hand, if possible. A procedure that would give a better visual appeal. When I was seen by Dr. Desmond his assessments seemed genuine in that a full thickness skin graft would achieve the results I was looking for. His ONLY note being that because the donor skin would be taken from my left groin area, the graft site may appear darker on my hand. I was fine with this assessment knowing at a later time, I may be inclined to use lightening treatments. After my initial consultation and based on Dr. Desmond’s promising procedure results I decided to move forward. During this time I was in college so I had to plan when I wanted the procedure to take place. A questionable and alarming instance, was that following my consultation, I received a call from the receptionist who initially booked me and asked if I was interested in moving forward and how I wanted to pay for deposit. This whole interaction felt very pushy and disingenuous. I wanted the surgery done on my terms, so I didn’t appreciate the pressure from the office requiring a deposit as if it was going to keep their lights on. Nonetheless, after careful planning, I booked my procedure day and underwent the surgery. The following weeks were met with check ups to monitor the status of the new graft site and its healing. Per Dr. Desmond’s assessments the graft did “take” successfully and as more check ups went by, understandably, his interest minimized. I was basically told to continue using the recommended scar crème and silicone gel sheets to aid in the maturation process of the graft site. I did this. For weeks, then months, then months turned into years. At this point, I came to the realization that the skin graft actually made my scar aesthetically and cosmetically worse. It caused an irregular skin texture and most disappointingly, became raised in appearance. All of which, if communicated to me before hand, I would’ve opted out of doing the procedure. Since 2014 I’ve been back to VCPS twice, once in 2016 and another time in 2021. I’ve voiced my concerns to Dr. Desmond but with no avail does he have a solution for me. To Dr. Desmond: I spent $4000 on a surgery that did the exact opposite of what I wanted to achieve. I hate to say it, but you FAILED me. I would have rather you tell me that it was best to leave it as is and give me your true and honest opinion.

Recently had a breast reduction here. Couldn’t be any happier with the results. I’ve waited a very long time for this surgery and I was not disappointed in the least. From start to finish everything was seamless. Everyone in the office was wonderful.

I had an amazing experience here. I am almost 6 weeks post op after liposuction and bbl procedures and i am so happy to already be seeing my results! Dr Desman was very attentive for what I wanted from the surgery, we discussed the expected results and even after such a short period of time i can see that i got all what I wanted! I’ve been thinking of some plastic surgery for a while, especially a breast augmentation. After researching a few different doctors online, I chose to reach out to Dr. Desman’s office and one other. Olga contacted me back immediately after my initial online contact and that stood out to me. She was very easy to talk to and incredibly pleasant. I was nervous even for my first consultation, but Dr. Desman was very professional and knowledgeable. He was precise in his measurements for my surgery, honest, and confident. Of course I was nervous the day of surgery as this was my biggest surgery ever. But I was calmed by Dr. Desman’s competence and abilities. Two months post-surgery and I am feeling incredible. I am beyond ecstatic with the results of my surgery (abdominoplasty and breast augmentation). Dr. Desman is top-notch and really knows what he’s doing. The staff has been amazing-so friendly and personable. The surgery is done at the Inova Medical Center, and I knew I was in great hands there. I absolutely recommend this entire staff. I’m so happy with my decision to finally do this surgery. Life changing in a most positive way.
