Dr Malviya is a very caring individual. She goes above and beyond for her patients to make sure they get the best care. She is very knowledgeable and personable, and loves working with kids and adults! I would definitely recommend her as your dermatologist.

Dr. Malviya made insensitive comments during my appointment about my family history of skin cancer even though I take as good of care of my skin as I can. I wear sunscreen daily and go to regular check ups with dermatologists because I am half Irish and I try to be cautious. I went for a new mole on my eyelid that had been getting larger and was starting to concern me. She barely looked at it and seemed to be more interested in talking down to me and stressing wearing sunscreen even though I do.. it was very strange. Not to mention that I had just found out my dad had skin cancer and she made a very inappropriate and unprofessional comment that “she would bet someone in my family already has skin cancer in a very attacking and condescending tone. She wasn’t thorough or patient with me. She was a new dermatologist for me as I had recently moved to the area and I will definitely be finding a new doctor.

We liked Dr. Malviya, very professional and was accommodating. On our first appointment we ran late yet they made room for us. She was also good with the baby and sang baby shark to my baby when he was crying. We came to see her because of our baby’s skin issues at the time. My baby was exclusively breastfed when we first saw Dr. Malviya. One of my concerns was if there was something I was eating that was contributing to the eczema. Dr. Malviya reassured me that it was nothing I was eating and I didn’t cause it. That some babies just have sensitive skin. I felt very encouraged after our first meeting even though doubtful and carried on with my regular diet. I kept reading online that elimination diet by moms of exclusively breastfed babies helped a lot of babies. That the main culprits were milk, egg, gluten and nuts. I wrestled with what I read online and what the doctor had said that it wasn’t what I was eating. I desperately wanted my baby to be okay but wanted to address the root cause of the issue instead of just treating the symptoms. On our second visit, we had not used the steroids prescribed but followed her instructions to apply Vaseline but still we weren’t seeing any improvement. Dr. Malviya was disappointed and insisted we use the steroids. Our choice not to use steroids was very personal after having researched on it. Definitely not discouraging using steroids. We wanted to follow a holistic approach and address the issue from the inside out. It was only during our second visit after we had introduced solids when we informed the doctor that our baby had a serious reaction to cashews that we gave him that she said I should stop eating nuts and see an allergist. Shortly after I eliminated all dairy, nuts, wheat and egg while waiting for an allergist appointment. My baby’s skin improved drastically by more than 80% within a few weeks of eliminating the diet mentioned. I also used tubby toad’s all over ointment for my baby and it did an amazing job of moisturizing his skin. We have since been to an allergist who confirmed that the allergies from me consuming the allergic food resulted in the eczema. We now have a plan of action that addresses treatment from the inside out. The allergist told us babies with allergies tend to have low vitamin D. Parents, research gut health and eczema. I am writing this because I feel I was failed and my baby was failed by the doctor. I feel it should be mandatory for babies with eczema to be tested to rule out food allergy. Even if a treatment for the symptoms is in place. Treating the symptoms even though necessary is not addressing the root cause. I was wrongly reassured that what I was eating was not related to the eczema. I want other parents in my shoes to know this too so they can make an informed decision about how they can approach the treatment of eczema for their babies.
