Only after moving away from Charlotte did I realize what an exceptional thorough skin cancer screening Dr. Brown did on me for many years compared to some sloppy Dr's here. (Richmond, VA). I do have to admit though - reading comments below - that Dr. Brown does have an arrogant streak. I take that.
I enjoyed my experience at Dilworth Dermatology but the front desk people are very unhelpful and honestly lazy. I am leaving a bad review because I tried to book a follow up appointment but once I got to the office I was told my insurance wasn't in network. I was very confused because I used my insurance for my first appointment and I found this office on my insurance website. I was told that a note was put in my file after my first appointment that it may denied by my insurance. No one thought to notify me of this. My first appointment was not denied my insurance and was finalized months ago so I am left extremely confused. If I find an office on my insurance website and upload my insurance card days before my appointment with no issues then you would think everything would be approved. I was told that in the future I should always call an office even if I think they are in network. Overall very disappointed in the front desk workers for causing so much confusion and not handling the situation properly.
I don’t often leave bad reviews, but you should be warned before you go here. I can get past bad bedside manner if you’re an amazing doctor, but Dr. Brown couldn’t have been more awful. I was there with my 16-year-old daughter who has struggled tremendously with acne. Dr. Brown was rude, arrogant, offensive and way out of line when speaking to my daughter and myself. When I asked him to educate us on the product, he just dismissed us as being stupid. My daughter who is so self-conscious about her face and scared about what medications she puts in her body, broke out in tears when he walked out. The reception women were not much better. Extremely rude with their responses to everything. . The nurses were OK but nobody could really be bothered to make you feel at all comfortable with the practice. In the end, he called in the wrong prescription dosage for Accutane and couldn’t be bothered to get the approval from my insurance company so that it didn’t cost me anything. Needless to say we did not fill our prescription and we have moved on to Charlotte dermatology. They have been amazing to work with. Informative and not condescending at all
Met with PA and medical assistant to have moles checked. They were both very kind, personable, professional, fast and urgent to tend to my concerns. I’ve never had a dermatology visit so effective and quick at the same time. Additionally, impeccable bedside manner and made me feel heard.
To be clear, I love the staff here and Katie is amazing. I have referred her to many people. She is one of my favorite health professionals ever. Today, she was on vacation and I got stuck with Dr. Brown. He was dismissive and awful. I came in with possible bug bites and he just kept listing off bugs. Whatever bite came to his mind. I get that it’s hard to diagnose bites but I felt Google images did a better job. I’m not even sure if they are bites! I came in with questions and anxiety. I left with questions, anxiety, less in my wallet, and quite a bit of rage.
